Should Selangor go for Local Council Election ?

Dear all,

I have a friend who had been staying in New Plymouth, New Zealand.

We had some discussion on the efficiency of our Local council and he was surprised to find out that our YDP/local Mayor/councillor/s are not elected but instead appointed by the state government.

For anybody would like to know more about how local council works in New Zealand, please click on the following link of New Plymouth District Council Website below including the Election result on 2007:-
Others including plans & strategy, council documents and minutes of meeting are all transparent.

Overgrown Aquatic Weed in Lake of Bandar Botanic

Finally, somebody is taking action to clear the overgrown aquatic weed in the lake of Bandar Botanic. It is something good after all. The photos above were taken yesterday morning.

Since MPK (Majlis Perbandaran Klang) has stated very clearly that they are only handling the landscaping of Botanic Garden but Lake maintenance. I presume TMO (Township Management Office) is the one who hired the contractor for the weed clearing job.

With the progress of clearing that I have observed these two days, I guess it will take not less than a week to clear all the overgrown weed in the lake.

I am not sure how many workers are involved in this weed clearing project but I have seen quite a number of them. Therefore, I am very sure that this process is not going to be a cheap one.

Hence, whoever taking care of the lake needs to allocate an annual budget for weed clearing job, just like grass cutting as it seems that this issue is going to be a perpetual problem.

I have a suggestion, instead of hiring contractor to clear the overgrown aquatic weed in a regular basis, can we have a permanent solution by introducing biological weed control method?

Apparently, we have an ecology problem to be addressed. Too much input of nutrient and not enough flow of water (stagnant most of the time), weed eating fishes are disappearing (stolen). There are so many man-made lakes in our country, I think the one in Taman Tasik is pretty well maintained compared to ours. I am sure there are sufficient expertise in this country to solve this problem, it is just a matter to do it or not.

Below is an article about biological weed control.

Who is responsible for Botanic landscape, Park & `lake'??

Dear residents,

There are still confusion even amongst Botanic residents whether MPK or Developer's responsible over the Botanic landscape, Park & retention pond/`lake'.

According to a group of volunteer residents meeting with MPK on 20 Dec 08 as posted in our website:-

bandarbotanic.net/2008/12/latest-news-update-27-dec-08-minutes-of.html

`.......As to a residents query as to why is the park handed over to MPK when the developer promised to take care for 10 years, En. Mohd Hijaz informed that as of May/June 2008, MPK has taken over only landscaping and gardening. Where else the developer is responsible for the lighting. Mechanical & engineering systems in the park.’............

As per meeting with MPK on 3rd April 2009 at MPK office (minutes attached above),

....the developer had yet to handle the `lake' or retention pond over to MPK and the maintenance of the retention pond/`lake' still under responsible of the developer....

As per Jan 2010, the scenario for Bandar Botanic Park is

1. MPK is responsible on the Landscape and gardening
2. Developer responsible over the lighting, mechanical & engineering system and maintenance of the retention pond /`lake'

So make sure you knock at the right door...and make sure they are responsible and accountable as

i) we are paying MPK for the quit rent every year
ii) we already purchased the house with the price inclusive of landscape, garden & retention `lake'
